The Band and Callers
The Band and Callers' Biographies
Sue, on fiddle, is a founder member of Eden Valley Ceilidh Band and loves playing both high energy jigs and reels and beautiful, lyrical ballads. She is a classically trained violinist and plays regularly with Lakeland Sinfonia and other ensembles. Sue plays a beautiful Bridge electric violin.
Rob is a professional musician and guitar teacher in Cumbria. He principally plays guitar with the band, with the option of a wide range of other instruments. Folk music is just one of Rob's specialisms.
Stuart is the band’s bass player and most experienced folk dance musician. A former member of the popular Cumbrian band ‘Jump at the Sun,’ Stuart has many years of experience playing at ceilidhs and dances in and around the Lake District.
Jim is also a founder band member and plays accordion and keyboard. He took up playing Celtic music after a summer student vacation job on the Isle of Coll in the Inner Hebrides. Jim is also a classical pianist, accompanist and organist and regularly plays for church services around the Eden Valley.
Brought up in rural Aberdeenshire, where the music is ceilidh music, Douglas has one job with the Band – encouraging and allowing everyone who wants to join in the fun to do so, regardless of whether they believe they can dance or not.
With over 30 years of experience calling at Ceilidhs, Chris is one of the North’s most experienced and accomplished callers. Chris always leads the evening in a relaxed and informal manner, where everyone can feel comfortable and join in.
Comments and Feedback
Just a short note to thank you and your colleagues for coming along and totally making our wedding day. The quality of everything was very high. A number of people said how nice it was to have live music during the day. The Ceilidh was very special. Douglas was brilliant and understands people who can't dance! The band was fantastic and so many people have given us very enthusiastic feedback about the whole evening.

We just wanted to say a massive thank you to you and the rest of the band for what was an amazing night celebrating our wedding, everyone had so much fun and we've definitely got some Ceilidh converts amongst our younger guests.
Just wanted to say a huge thank you for playing at Philip's party last night, you were absolutely fantastic and really played the right music to get everyone up and dancing. We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening and all our friends and family loved the dancing too.
“We would just like to take a moment to thank you and your excellent band for last night. It was so good to see most of our guests get up and involved in the dancing and the caller kept everyone right. Your band really finished our very special day off perfectly and we can’t thank you enough.”
"I just wanted to say a massive thank you for last night. So many of my guests commented on how great you were and I had a fab night. You were very patient and offered a great first ceilidh to those who hadn’t been to one before (and those who thought they were experts!). Please pass my thanks on to the whole band."
“Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU for being absolute stars at my party on Saturday evening. You made the night magic, thank you so much. And stripping the willow was just the best😀😀😉, and a great - if exhausting! - way to finish. Everyone really enjoyed it and I think there may be some more bookings to come!!"
